On Sunday, September 11 Beth Emeth hosted a commemoration of those who died, those who rescued and those who were otherwise affected by the horrendous attacks on that date in 2001.
A light lunch was served in Hinden Hall and afterwards people moved to the sanctuary for the memorial, which was emceed by President Joe Weintraub.
Members of the Civil Air Patrol presented the colors, Boy Scouts were in attendance performing assorted helpful good deeds and the members of the Fire Department who were there reminded those present of the bravery and heroism of First Responders in New York fifteen years ago.
At the start of the program, everyone joined in singing the National Anthem, God Bless America and America the Beautiful.
Rabbi Leo Abrami was joined by Sun City West Pastors Peter Deleon of Church on the Green, Bruce Schipul of Palm West Community Church, John Van Dine of New Hope Fellowship Church and Stephen Beyer of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in honoring the solemnity of the occasion. Rabbi Abrami opened with a prayer followed by readings and testimonies from the pastors.
Herschl Weberman read aloud names and descriptions of missing people that he had copied from notices posted around the area and in subway stations after the attack. This evidence of dreadful personal loss gave intimate reality to the national horror we all saw on television.
Many people who attended commented that they were pleased that Beth Emeth had seen fit to host this affair.
